I decided to keep Austin home from school today. Guess why? Because Mama felt it was that time of year we all dread. I didn't feel like breaking 3 nails, chasing Ileigh around to get her dressed, or yelling at Austin to smile right. But I certainly didn't feel like putting it off to the absolute last minute either. Do you know what I am talking about yet? It's Christmas picture time.
I was thinking in all honesty, that I would be able to have Austin get ready by 8:30, be at the studio around 9ish, and have them fit me right in. I did let Austin sleep in, while I kept Ileigh in as good a mood as possible. I called 2 studios, shit!, they didn't open until 10. Maybe if I got there right at 10, no one would be there yet, and they would get me right in. I decided to take Ileigh for a walk over to my madre's to see if I could inlist her help. I knew she wouldn't want to, and I can't blame her one bit. But I always have trouble deciding which are best, I pleaded. Of course she came.
I raced home and cajoled Austin into the shower. And for Pete's sake, he ran a bath. I told him he had better stick some shampoo on his head, rinse and dry. Then Grandma wanted his hair blown dry. I quickly ran the dryer over his head while he screeched and cowered. Then we were off! I was smart and decided not to dress Ileigh until a few minutes before she was to say cheese. I brought along 2 beautiful dresses for her, a red ralph lauren dress (consignment shop), and a pretty green and cream fairy dress Ellen got her.
Once we arrived, my heart was pounding that we may not get in. Ileigh was already getting her grump on. The portrait lady sympathetically informed me her first appt was at 11:40. No good since Ileigh naps no later than noon. I asked if we could wait for a no show, and she said yes. I hung around nervously for 20 minutes before I saw it. A little girl dressed to the nines in her pretty little Christmas dress, pretty little Christmas curls, and patten leather shoes. Little brat. I wanted to cry! I told the lady to pencil us in for 11:40.
I took Ileigh to frolic in the mall, we ate so that Austin could get Cinnabon on his beautiful Portrait wear, and waited. Back up to the studio at 11:30 to get Ileigh prepared. Have I mentioned Ileigh has a mean streak? If you want her to do something, and you have a time limit for her to do it, she will take neccessary measures to insure that you know she does not appreciate it. Scratching and face hitting included. I know everyone in the studio was laughing at the mom chasing her toddler through the optical and linens to put a collar over her pretty little head.
I said to hell with the leggings.
Suprisingly, she was smitten with the great big Winnie the Pooh-teasing photographer. She (and Austin both) appeared as delightful children in almost all of the 8 frames shot. Ahhh.. the magic of photography.
I can't wait to share! I get them back the day after my California trip!
